The first ever BB Family Night took place on 3rd August 2013 and it turned out to be huge success. The aim was to introduce all generations to Building Blocks and give them an insight into what we do and why. As well as showcasing our endeavours to date, we let everyone experience BB hospitality and had great entertainment and refreshments to keep everyone amused and satiated. 

 

We were greatly honoured to have Pragathi, from Super Singer Juniors fame, and Jude’s Band who entertained us vocally – singing songs in Tamil and Hindi that spanned from the Golden Era to the present day. Intermittently, we had classical dancing, Bollywood dancing and comedy with our very own in-house Comedy Fraternity comedian – Pravs.

 

We also wanted to remind everyone of why we had held this event so we gave a short presentation of our work to date and also showed our guests the BB video – these encapsulated all the reasons behind our mission and emphasised the need for continued support from the audience. The videos and photos from our trips brought home the message of the struggle children are facing back in Sri-Lanka and it struck a chord with those who had fled the war, as well as educating those who never faced those scenarios. With that we started on dinner – a sumptuous feast provided by Ruby catering which was devoured and very much appreciated. We had collection buckets and raffle tickets with amazing prizes donated for our cause which were graciously accepted.The night ended with a good old fashioned dance with an array of music provided by One One 7 Resonare and an even bigger array of dance moves were witnessed on the dance floor – from Michael Jackson to folk dance to RnB moves. The only flaw of the night was that the dancing didn’t continue until some ungodly hour of the morning but we had to stop sometime. 

 

Building Blocks accomplished our aims with this Family Night. We raised the profile of BB, raised awareness of the projects we were working on and raised almost £3000! Our guests left with big smiles on their faces and wanting to know when the next BB event will be held.All in all a great night for the entire family to enjoy…. Watch this space for Family Night 2014!
