Happy House Building Project
Building Blocks has a special place in the heart of the new Happy House secondary school, built by Children of Watamu, in Kenya.
We were delighted to fund the cost of building on of the classrooms at the school which is located next to the kindergarten and primary schools on a dedicated site just a short walk from the Happy House Children’s Home. The schools are attended by children living in care
of the Happy House and others from the local community.
The secondary school opened in January. Its first Form One is made up of students who moved up from the primary school.
They took their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exam in November, 2015, achieving a 100% success rate and putting Happy House fifth out of 38 schools in the education zone. A real achievement for a school in its debut KCPE year.
Most of these young people had endured long spells without any schooling because of their family circumstances of poverty, and had only joined the school when granted free place scholarships by Happy House 18 months before taking the examination.
Both students and teachers are proud to have such a beautiful and well-resourced school with a dedicated science laboratory, library and computer room with internet access. “Building Blocks has a special place in the heart of our school,” said Sue Hayward, founder of Children of Watamu “thank you for your continued love and support.
“The kindness and generosity of others, like yourselves, makes our work possible.” To find out more visit: www.childrenofwatumu.net
