KILINOCHCHI 2012

The Building Blocks team went on a 10 day fact-finding trip to the North of Sri Lanka in October 2012. The team visited orphanages and hospitals in various areas including Kilinochchi, Jaffna and Trincomalee, setting up small medical clinics to determine how Building Blocks can assist effectively.

Issues that were raised ranged from symptoms relating to dehydration, to the need for nutritional supplements, to injuries caused by lack of footwear... but the most important issue that requires urgent attention is the need for psycho-social assistance.

Having lived through a tsunami and a civil war, these children need to regain the motivation to live their lives to the fullest but having seen and experienced events that most of us would never experience in a lifetime, they need to feel like they have a future and not be haunted by their past.

This trip was an eye-opener, with the BB team using first hand knowledge from the trip to decide upon which projects to take on. As a result of this short mission, Building Blocks  now have projects of varying scales to work on, progress of which can be followed through this site.

Even though these children have been through a lot, the love and affection that the BB team received from them will never be forgotten. It only serves to spur BB on in its endeavours to ensure we live up to our motto of providing a New Start, New Hope and New life.
