Building Project: Sacred Heart Orphanage, Killinochi Sri Lanka
Whilst on the fact-finding mission in October 2012, the Building Blocks team visited the Sacred Heart Girls Home. Sacred Heart is home to around 70 orphan girls who are approximately aged between 5 and 15. At the time, the girls slept, ate and studied in the same hall.
As you can imagine, the conditions were extremely cramped. Not only was this physical uncomfortable but it also hindered their educational and emotional development. The building which used to be their dormitory was damaged by bombing during the civil war. From what the team saw first-hand, it was evident that the orphans' quality of life was significantly affected.
With funds raised from your generosity, the Building Blocks team are delighted to announce that we have COMPLETED works to repair the destroyed dormitory and construct an assembly hall. It is hoped that other local orphanages can also benefit from the assembly hall.
Please see below for pics of the dormitory and assembly hall before, during and after the completion of the building works.
